With Joseph Silk bookseller ink stamps on the title page. Robert Montgomery Bird, 1806 – 1854, was an American novelist, playwright, and physician. He began to write fiction during his time in medical school and by 1827 had published in the Philadelphia Monthly Magazine. After graduating from medical school, Bird attempted to begin a medical practice but became discouraged after one year and left medicine to pursue a literary career. Later, Bird also pursued both journalistic and editorial careers. The binding is tight and firm. There is some wear to the extremities, including some bumping and rubbing.
